Governor's Corner

July 2014

Hello Fellow Zontians-

I want to give a big Zonta thank you to Paulette Chatman, our outgoing District Governor, for her leadership and friendship over the past few years. We are all much better for knowing and following Paulette.  I am amazed that she managed to get so much done for us during the 2012-2014 biennium.  She left me with very big shoes to fill. Thank you Paulette for all you have done and will continue to do for Zonta

It was great to see so many of you at the Zonta International Convention in Orlando in late June.  I was especially proud of District 3 members who spoke their minds during our marathon debate of proposed changes to our Zonta International governing documents. Your words were thoughtful and to-the-point and I firmly believe that your insights helped to influence the delegates' voting on key changes under consideration.

As we focus on the 2014-2016 biennium, I hope that you will take the time to read our new district and ZI goals which are available at the Goals and Themes tab of our District 3 website.  Zonta International will continue its very successful fistula and pediatric HIV prevention projects in Liberia and Rwanda; and will add special communication projects in Vietnam and several other countries to educate women and men, girls and boys, that violence and discrimination against women is wrong. We can only stop the violence by educating both potential victims and their potential aggressors.  District 3 is committed to supporting these projects and to expanding our service and advocacy actions here at home.

Congratulations to District 3 Zontians who will be on Zonta International Committees for the 2014-2016 biennium:

  • UN - Chairman Leslie Wright; members Mary Ann Tarantula, Staci Alziebler-Perkins, Patricia Latona

  • Finance - Chairman Ellen Karo

  • Membership - Barbara Lippa

  • Advocacy - Bobbee Cardillo

I am looking forward to an active and enriching biennium with all of you.  Your enthusiasm and fellowship are wonderful to see, share and experience!
